Murder Victim's Husband: 'She Was My Life'

Tuesday, May 27, 2008 – updated: 5:40 pm EDT May 27, 2008

A public plea today from a Gwinnett County man, almost a month after his wife's murder.

Harold Wenal says he's desperate to find out who murdered Eva Kay Wenal in their home and why.

Husband Talks About Wife's Murder

Wenal tells us Gwinnett detectives are in two states today following up on leads in his wife's murder. He's also hoping a $100,000 reward will lead people to call police here with information.

Wenal says what he's going through is very painful; a pain he would not wish on anyone else.

"I desperately want to know what happened that day and whatever it's going to take we're willing to do," says Wenal.

It's been almost a month since Wenal lost his wife, who friends and family called Kay. He talked to us outside his Sugar Hill office. He saw his wife alive for the last time here when she walked through his office door on May 1.

"She came here at lunch time and stopped in to see us. And walked in the office, kissed me and said I'll see you tonight for dinner," says Wenal.

But when he got to his Lawrenceville home, he found his wife murdered.

"I came home at about 6:45 p.m. and found my wife face down in a pool of blood," says Wenal.

Wenal says based on the investigation, there was no forced entry into the home. For weeks now, Gwinnett Police have been working on finding a motive and a suspect.

"We've gone through every scenario possible and we're trying to come up with that answer and hopefully the Gwinnett Police will be able to," says Wenal.

The successful developer had known his wife for 30 years and they were married for 20. He says their life together was a good one.

"She was my life," says Wenal. "[She was] very pleasant and always helped everyone no matter who they were. It's very difficult right now. I'm having a very rough time. It's the hardest thing I've ever faced."

Wenal hasn't been back to their home since the murder and plans to move things out.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call Gwinnett County Police at 770-513-5390. There is a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
