14th St. Bridge Closed In Midtown Atlanta

Posted: 11:50 am EDT May 26, 2008Updated: 8:58 am EDT May 27, 2008

Commuters who use the 14th Street bridge to get into Midtown or Downtown Atlanta better have some alternate routes planned.

The bridge closed to traffic about 3 a.m. Tuesday -- for one-and-a-half years.

Work on the bridge, including two new exit ramps and new sidewalks, is scheduled to be completed late May 2010. The estimated cost of the project is $88.5 million.

The Tuesday morning commute, the first after the Memorial Day weekend, is expected to be a headache, with backups predicted on the Downtown Connector.
