Fan Killed In Fall From Upper Deck At Turner Field

A Braves fan is dead following a fall Wednesday night from the upper deck at Turner Field.

Atlanta police spokesman Ronald Campbell said Justin Hayes, 25, of Cumming, fell in the bottom of the eighth inning at Wednesday night's Braves game, plunging from the upper deck concourse to the field level concourse behind home plate.

"I don't know if he was playing on the banister or if he was messing around on the banister, but he slipped and fell about 150 feet down," said Campbell.

Braves spokesman Brad Hainje said Hayes apparently fell from the club level to the landing on the stairwell on the field level.

Braves officials released a statement Thursday morning that said "The Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Police Department are investigating the tragic accident that resulted in the death of a 25-year old male fan at last night’s game. Our sincerest and heartfelt condolences go out to his family."

An autopsy will determine if alcohol played a role in the accident.

Hayes was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
