Two teenage boys drowned Friday during a 'senior skip day' outing with classmates at Lake Allatoona.

The victims, 18-year-old Jose Roberto Martinez and 15-year-old Edwardo Avalos, both attended North Cobb High School.

Officials told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter Tiffani Reynolds the teens were at the Red Top Mountain area of the lake with a group of about a dozen other students.

Just after 11 a.m. the group decided to swim across part of the lake that was not designated as a swimming zone. The rest of the group made it, but the victims went under and never resurfaced.

The two drowned in approximately 60-feet of water while trying to cross a 150-yard cove.

The Cherokee County Dive Team found their bodies about 2:15 p.m.

Members of the Bartow County Emergency Management Agency, the Emergency Medical Services, the Fire Department, the Sheriff's Office, as well as the Cherokee County Dive Team and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and State Parks were on the scene Friday afternoon.
