Eighteen people were treated for breathing problems Wednesday after a chemical spill at a suburban Atlanta high school, an official said.

More than 2,000 students were evacuated from Centennial High School in north Fulton County just before noon. School officials decided shortly after 1 p.m. to end school for the day and students will be released to go home.

Formaldehyde was spilled in a school bathroom, according to Fulton County schools official Susan Hale.

A student, a police officer and two teachers were taken to a hospital.

Fourteen others were being treated at the scene.

Students were taken to the school's athletic field while emergency crews check out the school.

Officials are currently airing out the school. No word yet on what caused the spill.
