Gwinnett Officials Find 200 Pounds Of Pot Hidden In Truck

Posted: 3:35 pm EDT April 1, 2008

Gwinnett sheriff's deputies seized more than 200 pounds of marijuana Monday after noticing suspicious behavior by the occupants of a truck.

According to Gwinnett officials, Lt. Dave Henry was traveling near a hotel off Pleasant Hill Road Monday just before noon when he noticed two men behaving suspiciously near a parked 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck. When the two men got into the vehicle and began driving away from the location, Henry followed them for several miles before they parked the vehicle in a shopping center at Peachtree Industrial Boulevard and Ga. Highway 120.

Gwinnett officials said Henry set up surveillance on the vehicle for more than six hours waiting for the men to return but they never did. At that point, he requested a K-9 and the K-9 reacted indicating drugs were inside the vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies impounded the vehicle and when they searched it found a hidden compartment with more than 200 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of $950,000.

The investigation is continuing.
