Missing Henry County Man's Body Found In Lake

The body of a missing Henry County man has been found in a lake behind his home.

The family of 43-year-old Stephen Early Edwards of Hampton reported him missing February 29. They said he had gone for a walk with his dog in a wooded area inside his neighborhood on Red Maple Drive around 5:30 p.m. Thursday and his dog returned home without him.

Henry County officials had been searching a 5-acre lake in his subdivision since Saturday. Dive teams from Pike and Spalding Counties located Edwards’ body just after 3 p.m. Wednesday. His family said Edwards could not swim.

Authorities said Edwards was wearing the same clothes he was last seen in.

"We've just been watching and waiting and praying and unfortunately it turned out for the worst. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family," said neighbor Paula Cowart.

An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. Police told Channel 2's Ashley Hayes they do not suspect foul play at this point.
