Empowering Hispanic Students At Norcross High; La Voz

Wednesday, February 6, 2008 – updated: 12:54 pm EST February 6, 2008

La Voz is a club created to empower Hispanic students through academics, school involvement, and community service activities.

La Voz invites all NHS students to join, as one of the goals of the club is to share Hispanic culture and customs with students of other races and ethnicities.

Every year the La Voz club sponsors a dance (Reventon) where all NHS students are invited. Student groups perform traditional and non-traditional dances.

La Voz has won the Homecoming Cart contest two years in a row.

Students have earned over 500 service hours through La Voz. (one example: translating for student teacher conferences at NHS feeder school)

Throughout the year La Voz raises money to sponsor two $500 scholarships to Hispanic seniors that are going to attend a college or university.

Two of our executive committee members have gone on to UGA and have become integral parts in similar clubs at UGA.
