The Norcross High School Band, One Of The Best In The Business

The NHS Marching Band performs at football games, marching band competitions, and community events and parades in the Atlanta area.  The Marching Band has consistently received straight Superior ratings and numerous Grand Champion Trophies at competitions in Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina. Recent honors include the 2007 and 2001 Gold Division Grand Championship at the Southern Invitational at Sprayberry High School in Marietta, GA and the 2004 Grand Championship at the 31st Annual Peach State Marching Festival in Rome, GA.

The NHS Wind Symphony is recognized as one of the finest bands in the region. The Wind Symphony performs three concerts a year locally, attends the Georgia Music Educators Association's Large Group Performance Evaluation, and participates in nationally adjudicated festivals every other year.

Honors and awards include:

2007 GMEA Annual In-Service Conference Featured Ensemble Performance

2007 William D. Revelli Concert Band Award and First Place Honors at the Festivals of Music event in Chicago, Illinois. The Symphonic Band was also awarded the Best in Class Honors and finished in 2nd Place.

2005 Fiestaval! Invitational in New York, Superior Ratings and Best in Class Awards

2003 Sweepstakes/Grand Champion Award and Best in Class at the American Classics/Performing Arts Consultants Festival at Loyola University in New Orleans, Louisiana, The Symphonic Band also received Superior Ratings and the Best in Class Award.

1996 Sudler Flag of Honor awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation

Federal law forbids paying welfare benefits to immigrants -- even legal immigrants. But a government investigation found that states all over the country are ignoring an important part of that law. When Channel 2 Action News reporter Richard Belcher asked Georgia's Department of Human Services what it was doing, the answer was: We don't know.

A Channel 2 investigation is exposing critical 911 delays. Dozens of Channel 2 viewers called and e-mailed us and said they were put on hold during emergencies. Investigative reporter Jodie Fleischer spent months requesting and digging through records. While the city of Atlanta still hasn't provived all of what we asked for, Fleischer has uncovered what appears to be a 911 emergency.
