Vick's Pit Bulls Will Star In Reality Show

Wednesday, January 30, 2008

Pit bulls that once belonged to Michael Vick will be featured in a reality show this summer about an animal sanctuary.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 22 of Vick’s dogs are now at Dogtown. The National Geographic Channel began a series about Dogtown, an animal sanctuary in Utah, in January.

In an episode airing this summer will focus on four of the toughest cases and the staff’s efforts to resocialize the aggressive pit bulls, according to the National Geographic Channel.

Three of Vick’s dogs are with a Smyrna man who runs a foster home for pit bulls. "Chuck" is the youngest -- a carefree pup just taking in life. "Seven" is the female and seemingly happy, according to Channel 2's Ross Cavitt. And "Makavelli" is the brown pit bull that is clearly shy and skittish. His foster dad, though, says rehabilitation is easy.

  • "Giving them a lot of love is the main thing. With these animals, they've never experienced love. When I got Makavelli, he didn't even know to wag his tail when I pet him. He just didn't understand, but that's just because he's never gotten anything but hatred directed towards him and that's obvious in all his mannerisms," said Brandon Bond.

Vick, the suspended star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, was sentenced in December to 23 months in federal prison. Three co-defendants also have been sentenced to prison terms.
