DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Investigators are looking into a freak accident that killed a maintenance worker at a DeKalb County school.

Officials said a service center employee was handling a routine maintenance call at Woodridge Elementary School in Stone Mountain when he was electrocuted while changing out a light ballast in the school's media center.

A school employee told Channel 2's John Cater several students saw what happened.

"He was working inside the school and one of the teachers was in there and school was going on as usual and he was working on the lights and he got shocked while school was going on so they all saw it happen," said custodian Kenneth Jackson.

Students were kept inside their classrooms while a teacher administered CPR.

Paramedics were immediately called and he was rushed to DeKalb Medical Center. The employee was pronounced dead at the hospital as a result of his injury.

School officials said the worker had been with the school district since 2000. His name has not yet been released.
