ATLANTA -- Here are some of the events going on around the Atlanta area to celebrate the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday:
Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Service, Atlanta
10 a.m., at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 407 Auburn Ave, N.E., the Horizon Sanctuary. A service will be held to remember King with tributes from national and international leaders. Keynote speaker is the Rev. Vashti McKenzie, bishop of Payne Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church in Baltimore. Seating is limited. The event is free. Information: 404-526-8911.
DeKalb NAACP Sixth Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Rally, Stone Mountain
2:30 p.m. The parade starts at the MARTA parking lot on Fourth Street in downtown Stone Mountain. The rally follows immediately after (at approximately 4:30 p.m.) in the gymnasium of Champion Theme Middle School at 5265 Mimosa Drive. This year's Grand Marshall is Mark Hayes, co-host of WAGA-TV "Good Day Atlanta Show." The Martin Luther King, Jr. High Marching Lions, Stone Mountain High Marching Pirates, Ronald E. McNair High Marching Mustangs and Tucker High Marching Tigers will march alongside several local politicians and celebrities. Information: 404-371-1490.
2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Program, Lawrenceville
9:30 a.m. parade & program at noon. The parade starts at Gwinnett Courthouse Square, 185 Crogan St., Lawrenceville. It ends at Central Gwinnett High School, 564 West Crogan St. After the parade, the United Ebony Society hosts a King Day program at the high school featuring student performers. The events are free. 15th Annual Hands On Atlanta Martin Luther King Jr. Service Summit, Atlanta area
All day. Dozens of service projects will take place throughout the metro area. Among them, volunteers can help landscape at the Auburn Senior Center; paint murals at Banneker High School, or help set up and clean the area in Turner Field where the Hosea Feed the Hungry & Homeless program will serve its meals. Open House at Martin Luther King Jr.'s Birth Home, Atlanta
9 a.m. -- 6 p.m., 503 Auburn Ave. Tour the house where King was born and lived until the age of 12. To commemorate his birthday, this historic home will be open without the customary need to first get a ticket at the Visitor Center. Birth Home tours are free. Information: 404-331-5190.
COBB COUNTY: King Day Celebration and Parade, Marietta
10 a.m. -- 12:30 p.m. celebration and parade at 1 p.m. The 22nd annual Cobb County NAACP celebration is at the Jennie T. Anderson Theatre, 548 S. Marietta Parkway. The morning-long celebration will recall King's message of love and nonviolence. The event featuring singers, youth dancers and local politicians will be hosted by WSB-TV anchor Monica Pearson. The parade kicks off at the Lockheed Employees Federal Credit Union, 430 Commerce Park Drive, Marietta. Both events are free. Rally information: 770-425-5757. Parade information: 404-863-0945.

Amandla Arts Trio

Emory University's King Week
Forums, concerts and tree planting. The tree planting will take place at 8:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday. The Cannon Chapel Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cannon Chapel, 515 Kilgo Circle, and the forums will take place at various locations. Decatur's 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Service Project
Volunteers help about 20 senior homeowners in Decatur with everything from paint jobs and electrical work to cleaning out basements and yard work. The project will take place on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and volunteers will work in four-hour shifts (either 9 to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 5 p.m).
