Dragged Dog Makes 'Miraculous' Recovery

A dog who suffered unimaginable abuse has made a miraculous recovery according to his caregivers.

On July 24, motorists watched as “Sparky” was dragged along the I-75 Frontage Road near Forest Parkway. His leash had been tied to the back of a car bumper. Officials said finally either the leash snapped or Sparky was able to slip out of his collar.

He lost his nails and the pads on all four paws. He was missing a patch of skin that was so large it couldn’t be stitched up. Caregivers said Sparky was in a considerable amount of pain. Officials at the Paces Ferry Veterinary Clinic gave him the name Sparky because of his upbeat demeanor, they said.

After the story of Sparky was told, hundreds of people called Atlanta Pet Rescue interested in adopting him. The agency said they have narrowed down the applicants to 20 and after meeting with each of the candidates, will make a decision by Friday.

Sparky will be able to go to his new home Monday.

Officials said despite a $10,000 reward for information, the person responsible for Sparky’s ordeal has not yet been found.
