A fatal motorcycle crash shut down all lanes of northbound I-85 for three hours in Gwinnett County Wednesday morning.

The back-up lasted so long that when the highway was reopened police had to go car to car to wake up driver who fell asleep during the delay.

Gwinnett police and fire units were at the scene of the crash just south of the Hamilton Mill Road exit.

Traffic was stopped about 3:30 a.m. and at one point was backed up for seven miles.

All lanes were reopened about 6:00 a.m.
