Allatoona Cancels Fireworks; Roswell Delays Decision

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- Some Fourth of July fireworks shows around metro Atlanta could be in jeopardy this year because of the drought.At least one show has been canceled and officials are considering delaying others.The Allatoona Yacht Club on Lake Allatoona announced Friday it canceled its fireworks show because of the dry conditions.In an e-mail announcement sent to WSB-TV Channel 2 Action News club dock master Dave Reynold said the club will not have the "biggest firework show on the lake this year due to the drought."He added "If all goes well we will have them on Labor Day weekend."Roswell officials decided Friday to delay a decision on whether they will cancel their annual Fourth of July fireworks show because of dry conditions caused by the drought. The Roswell fire chief has recommended city officials consider canceling the show because of concern over fire safety.The city council put off a final decision until Monday. Roswell spokeswoman Julie Brechbill said officials have been watching weather conditions and have until Monday to let the vendor of the fireworks show about their decision. She said if conditions do not change, the fireworks likely will be canceled. She said city officials also will urge citizens to be careful during the holiday and not set off fireworks at home. Brechbill said this will be the eighth year for the celebration.Here is the status of some other shows around the area: Woodstock: Postponed Until Later This Year Douglas County: Canceled July 4th Fireworks Lake Allatoona Yacht Club: Canceled July 4th Fireworks Powder Springs: Will Host A City Display -- Banned Use Of Personal Fireworks Decatur: Show will go on as scheduled. Mall of Georgia: Show Will Go On Gwinnett County: The Gwinnett fire marshal has approved fireworks in four locations: Lake Lanier, The Mall of Georgia, Lawrenceville Square and Stone Mountain Park. Stone Mountain Park: "Fantastic Fourth" celebration (laser show and fireworks) is still on, but park evaluates conditions daily. Centennial Olympic Park: "AirTran Airways Spectacular Fireworks" event still on Marietta Square: "Fourth in the Park" celebration still on for now Roswell: Fireworks show is on
