A 15-month-old girl has been struck and killed by a car in her family’s driveway.

Officials say it happened shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday at the girl’s home on Red Cloud Court in Austell.

Authorities say a family member was backing out of the driveway in a SUV when they hit the child.

The mother was nearby and ran to her child's aid and neighbors also ran to help, but witnesses say it was too late.

Investigators were called to the scene but they say it appears to be a tragic accident.
