LAWRENCEVILLE -- A 40-year-old Lawrenceville woman will head to court next week to face charges after investigators found nearly 70 dogs in her home.

Some of Marian Morris’ neighbors tell Channel 2 they’ve been complaining about the smell for years – since the rescue operation got out of control.

Wendy Fuller says a few years ago, her neighbor, Marian Morris, started rescuing dogs and bringing them to her home – in the 300 block of Hearth Place.

Now just one lone cat remains, along with feces-covered clutter on the curb – people in the Marsh Creek Subdivision now believe it is the homeowner that needed help.

Over time, a few dogs turned into a slew of cats and canines – cramped in what Gwinnett County Animal Control investigators say were pretty deplorable conditions – with dogs occasionally darting out of the house.

Fuller says she and her neighbors have been calling police and Morris was charged with 78 counts of animal neglect.

Animal Control ended up removing 68 dogs from the Lawrenceville home – along with 10 cats. Some of the animals were so sick they are now on medication.

So far, it doesn’t look like any of the animals will have to be euthanized.

Fuller is just glad something was finally done.

“The environment and the children here – I’m just relieved they’re gone,” she said.

There are fewer than 10 animals at Gwinnett County Animal Control. Rescue groups from across the state picked up the rest of the pets.
