A scare at a Georgia elementary school – a 10-year-old student is charged after police say he threatened to blow up his teachers.

Police say the elementary school student brought what he claimed were bombs to school. He has been suspended and charged after the incident at Cornelia Elementary School in Habersham County.

Police are taking the case very seriously and the entire community is shocked.

As the school day came to an end at Cornelia Elementary, some parents are learning of the 10-year-old’s threat to teachers for the first time.

“It was scary. Because I have a daughter and a niece and nephew that attend here too – it bothered me and it bothered some of my family members as well,” said parent Melissa Eisel.

School police say a 10-year-old student told some friends he was going to “blow up some teachers” and bring bombs to school. One student told the principal and on Friday school officials and police found the student’s backpack in a classroom with something inside.

“We know that it wasn’t flammable and it wasn’t explosive. But it was two devices that he had said were bombs,” said Don Ford with the Habersham Board of Education.

“It scared me. I mean, I’ve only got one child and that child is my world. If I lose him, you know, I don’t know what to do,” said parent Bobby Moore.

Habersham School Superintendent Dr. Judy Forbes said the child has been suspended for now.

“Well, the child is very, very young. We have to look for some unique kinds of ways to handle this to make sure the child is helped in this situation,” said Dr. Forbes.

Police say the boy faces two counts of possessing a destructive device and four counts of making terroristic threats or acts.

The child is currently with his parents.
