Teen dead, 1 injured in I-85 crash

ATLANTA, Ga. — Police say a teenager died in a wreck on Interstate 85 northbound Monday night.

Georgia State Patrol officials said a red Ford Explorer traveling northbound appears to have been going too fast for conditions and lost control of the SUV, causing it to flip.

“One of the guys called me right now saying, ‘Your brother got involved in an accident.’ I just want to see if he's all right,” Moises Robles said.

Channel 2’s Amy Napier Viteri spoke to Robles as he arrived to the crash scene to try to get information.

He says someone called to tell him his brother Juan Ocampo was in the SUV. A GSP spokesperson confirmed the 18-year-old, of Brookhaven, was killed in the crash.

Several family members gathered near the scene left in tears after getting news of Ocampo's death.

Crews treated the driver of the SUV and later, GSP officers arrested him.

GSP officials said another person inside the SUV was hurt and crews transported that person to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Crews reopened all lanes to traffic just before 9:30 p.m.

An officer on scene told Viteri the driver was being taken to the Fulton County Jail. She contacted GSP, who is checking on what charges that driver will face.
