Heat Claim F Jones Off Waivers

Tuesday, August 5, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Miami Heat announced on Tuesday that the club claimed forward Bobby Jones off waivers.

The oft-traveled Jones was waived by the New York Knicks less than 24 hours after they acquired the forward's services on July 28. The Knicks sent forward Renaldo Balkman and cash considerations to the Denver Nuggets for Jones, guard Taurean Green, and a second-round draft choice in 2010, but the Knicks cut both players while trying to revamp their roster.

Jones recently completed just his second season after Minnesota selected him in the second round (37th overall) of the 2006 draft, but the 6-foot-7, 215- pound forward has already played with six different teams.

He appeared in 44 games for Philadelphia in 2006-07, then averaged 3.8 points in just more than 11 minutes per game this past season while playing for Memphis, Houston, San Antonio, the Nuggets, and the Heat.

Jones appeared in six games with Miami last season, averaging 8.0 points and 4.0 rebounds during that span.
