What is dear old Dad getting for Father's Day this year? Not nearly as much as Mom did for her special day, according to a new survey from Discover Card.According to the survey, children said they plan to spend $31 on Dad for Father's Day, which is $10 less than they spent on Mom for her day.Wives said they intend on spending an average of $43 on their husbands, while husbands average $63 for Mother's Day. Fathers-in-law fared the worst, though. Respondents said they were three times less likely to buy a present for their fathers-in-law than their own dads. The survey found that it is probably a very good thing that most fathers want very little for their day.One-third of fathers surveyed said they'd rather receive a card than a big gift."Less is more when it comes to dad, as our survey reveals he appreciates the simple things in life," said Margo Georgiadis, executive vice president of Discover Financial Services.Almost a quarter said they were hoping for a meal out at a restaurant, while another 14 percent said they'd like to receive a home-cooked meal.Another 14 percent said they would like sports or hobby equipment, while 15 percent said they were hoping for a gift certificate. Most of those surveyed -- 86 percent -- said they planned to buy their gifts at "brick and mortar" stores, while 22 percent said they planned to shop online.Discover Card surveyed 1,000 adults -- 500 males and 500 females -- nationwide during April for its Father's Day shopping survey.
