ATLANTA -- If you’re a working parent, you know how hard it is to find the right day care for your child. Now, the state of Georgia has made it easier than ever to research day care centers and pre-schools. Consumer advisor Clark Howard shows you the wealth of information at your fingertips.

Kids Kondo has been in the Highland Park neighborhood for years. A little girl, Alicia, was there because her parents heard about it from neighbors.

“You know, I’m not from this country, and we are kind of a little bit suspicious of other places, you know, but from the first moment I came here I felt really good about this place,” said Alicia’s dad, Roberto Zegarro.

Finding the right day care center is much more than getting the right price – it’s finding the right fit for your child. Now, it’s easier than ever to research pre-school programs.

Here’s how: http://www.decal.state.ga.us/ is the state’s “Bright From The Start” Web site. It’s been newly updated so you can easily find state records about every licensing and monitoring visit to every licensed pre-school program in the state.

The people who run Kids Kondo said it’s a great tool for parents.

“Any way a parent can find out more information about where they’re going, so they can feel more secure at their job, I feel it’s a good thing to have,” said Robert Clark with Kids Kondo.

“Internet research is a great thing; it’s easy and you can do it from home,” said Clark Howard. “But it doesn’t take the place of visiting a center yourself.”

At Kids Kondo, they recommend two visits.

“Make an appointment the first time. The second time, just show up and see how it looks and if you feel comfortable, and I mean from your gut, that’s how you really feel, and you know, I think a lot of people know if they feel good about a place when they walk in,” said Robert Clark.

“So when you’re looking for a day care center, get all the information you can about the place,” said Clark Howard. “From the Internet to other parents to the staff, the more information you have, the better equipped you are to choose the right place for your child.”
