Reds Sign RHP Ramon Ortiz

Cincinnati, OH -- The Cincinnati Reds and pitcher Ramon Ortiz have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2006.Ortiz, who was scheduled for arbitration Friday afternoon, was acquired from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for pitcher Dustin Moseley in December. The 31-year-old Ortiz was signed by the Angels as an amateur free agent and threw in 157 games (137 starts) for the team from 1999-2004. He went 5-7 with a 4.43 ERA in 34 games, including 14 starts and 20 relief appearances, in 2004. Ortiz, whose career record is 59-49 with a 4.60 ERA, was 15-9 with a 3.77 ERA during the 2002 season. He was the winning pitcher in Game 3 of the 2002 World Series against San Francisco. The Angels beat the Giants in seven games.
