A's Reliever Foulke Heads To DL

Friday, July 4, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Oakland Athletics placed veteran reliever Keith Foulke on the 15-day disabled list Friday, retroactive to July 3, with right shoulder inflammation.

Foulke is 0-3 with a 3.81 earned run average in 26 relief appearances with the A's this season. The 35-year-old righthander is making his second trip to the disabled list this season, as he also missed time from April 11 to May 9 with neck stiffness. He had pitched in just two of the A's last 12 games before going on the DL.

The ailing A's, who set a club record last season by placing 22 players on the disabled list, have already sent 17 to the DL this season.

To take his spot on the roster, the A's recalled lefthanded pitcher Jerry Blevins from Triple-A Sacramento.

Blevins was 2-2 with a 2.78 ERA and a team-leading 10 saves in 28 games with Sacramento. The 24-year old lefthander is making his first appearance with the A's this season after posting a 9.64 ERA in six relief appearances in his MLB debut with Oakland last year.
