Baltimore, MD -- Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Mark Grudzielanek had four hits and Jose Guillen added three runs batted in, as the Kansas City Royals battered the Baltimore Orioles with a seven-run sixth inning to earn a 10-7 victory in the finale of a four-game set at Camden Yards. Grudzielanek scored twice with an RBI and Guillen had two hits with a run scored. Billy Butler and Tony Pena Jr. each added two hits, an RBI and two runs scored in the win for Kansas City, which notched its second win in the last six games. Joel Peralta (1-2), Ron Mahay and Joakim Soria, who recorded his 23rd save of the season, combined to toss six scoreless innings in relief. Aubrey Huff hit a solo and two-run homer with a double in four at-bats and Adam Jones was 2- for-4 with two RBI and a run scored for the Orioles, who split the series with the Royals. Adam Loewen (0-2) took the loss allowing three runs on three hits without retiring a batter in the sixth.Final Score: Boston 7, New York 0 Bronx, NY (Sports Network) - Jon Lester threw a complete game gem, while Jacoby Ellsbury and Mike Lowell both drove in two runs, and the Boston Red Sox shut down the New York Yankees, 7-0, in the opener of a four-game set from Yankee Stadium. Lester (7-3) scattered five hits throughout his time on the mound and struck out eight, while walking only two batters. Jason Varitek and Julio Lugo both had an RBI for the Red Sox, who snapped a five-game skid. Robinson Cano and Melky Cabrera each had two hits for the Yankees, who lost for the fourth time in five games. Andy Pettitte (9-6) took the loss as he was touched for six runs -- five earned -- on nine hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. Final Score: Oakland 3, Chicago 2 Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - Donnie Murphy hit the go-ahead home run in the fifth inning and Justin Duchscherer was impressive on the mound, as the Oakland Athletics edged the Chicago White Sox, 3-2, in the opener of a four- game set. Duchscherer (9-5) tossed seven frames and yielded just two runs on five hits to pick up the win for the A's, who are 2-4 over their last six contests. Jack Cust accounted for the other two Oakland runs with a game- tying two-run homer in the fourth inning. Dewayne Wise belted a solo home run for the Sox, who saw their seven-game win streak come to an end. Jermaine Dye went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Javier Vazquez (7-7) was dealt the loss, despite throwing all nine innings and giving up just three runs on four hits and one walk, while fanning 10 batters. Final Score: Detroit 8, Seattle 4 Seattle, WA (Sports Network) - Ivan Rodriguez knocked in three runs and Justin Verlander hurled six effective innings, as the Detroit Tigers topped the Seattle Mariners, 8-4, in the opener of a four-game set. Matt Joyce had four hits, including a pair of doubles, and an RBI, while Mike Hollimon finished 2- for-4 with his first career home run. Verlander (5-9) surrendered two runs on eight hits and three walks to earn the win for Detroit, which snapped a two-game slide after rattling off six straight wins. Fernando Rodney threw one pitch in the ninth to record his first save of the season. Jose Lopez was 3-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Jose Vidro and Adrian Beltre added RBI hits for Seattle, which had a two-game win streak halted. Mariners starter Carlos Silva (4-10) was tagged for five runs on nine hits in five innings to take the loss.
