Thome Lifts ChiSox Over Halos In Ninth

Anaheim, CA -- (Sports Network) - Jim Thome drove in the game-winning run in the ninth as the Chicago White Sox downed the LA Angels of Anaheim, 4-3, in the finale of a four-game set.A.J. Pierzynski went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored while Orlando Cabrera and Juan Uribe each drove in a run for the White Sox, who have won five of their last eight games. Javier Vazquez started the game and was charged with three runs -- two earned -- on nine hits with six strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Octavio Dotel (2-2) got the win for pitching 1 1/3 innings. Garret Anderson went 2-for-4 with one RBI while Maicer Izturis had two hits and two runs scored for the Angels, who have dropped two straight and six of their last eight. Jon Garland started on the mound and gave up three runs on seven hits with four walks and a strikeout in six innings of work. Francisco Rodriguez (0-1) got the loss for giving up one run on two hits. With the score tied in the ninth, Chicago took the lead. Pierzynski led off with a double and moved to third on a fly out by Carlos Quentin. Jermaine Dye then fouled out, but Thome punched a single to right that brought home Pierzynski for a 4-3 lead. "It was a big hit," said Thome. "They got a good ballclub and you have to bring your 'A' game against them. To come out of here with a split was huge. You keep upbeat and things will turn around." Bobby Jenks pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his eighth save of the season. The Angels got on the board in the first inning. Back-to-back one-out singles put runners at the corners and Anderson roped a single to center that scored Izturis. After Torii Hunter popped out, Casey Kotchman lofted a double to left that scored Vladimir Guerrero for a 2-0 lead. However, the White Sox responded with three runs in the second. With the bases loaded, Uribe hit into a fielder's choice that scored Paul Konerko. Cabrera followed with a sac fly that plated Joe Crede and Pierzynski then belted a double to bring home Uribe for a 3-2 lead. Anaheim tied the game in the seventh. With runners on second and third, Anderson punched a grounder to third base that Crede misplayed, allowing Izturis to cross the plate and make it a 3-3 contest. Game Notes Chicago plays a three-game set in San Francisco starting on Friday...The Angels host the Dodgers for three games beginning on Friday...Uribe left the game after the sixth inning with a hamstring injury...Attendance was 41,444.
