(Sports Network) - Big right-hander Brad Penny seeks a third straight quality start to begin 2007 tonight when the Los Angeles Dodgers visit Chase Field for the first of two games with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Penny, who spent four-plus seasons with Florida before coming to Los Angeles in 2004, has allowed just one run in 13 1/3 innings this season while picking up wins over San Francisco and Colorado. The 260-pound Oklahoman won a career-best 16 games for the Dodgers in 2006, posting a 4.33 earned run average in 189 innings of work. He is 5-2 lifetime against the Diamondbacks in 11 starts, with a 2.11 ERA over 68 1/3 innings. Arizona goes with youngster Edgar Gonzalez, who has given up 13 hits and six runs over his first two starts of 2007, winning one and getting a no-decision in the other. The 24-year-old Mexican right-hander entered the season having made 31 appearances -- 17 starts -- for the Diamondbacks since initially reaching the majors in 2003. He was 3-4 in 11 appearances - five starts - last season, posting a 4.22 ERA over 42 2/3 innings. Gonzalez has been hit hard in three career meetings with the Dodgers, going 0-2 while allowing 19 hits and 13 runs in just 10 innings. On Sunday in Los Angeles, Andre Ethier went 3-for-5, ripped a two-run home run, and drove in four to lead the Dodgers over the San Diego Padres, 9-3. Russell Martin and Wilson Valdez collected three hits each for LA, which pounded out 13 hits. Randy Wolf (2-1) fanned seven in six innings, allowing three runs on six hits for the Dodgers. In Phoenix, Tony Clark homered twice and drove in three runs to power Arizona to a 6-4 triumph over Colorado. Doug Davis (1-1) got the win despite allowing nine hits and four runs over five innings. Los Angeles won 10 of its 18 matchups with Arizona in 2006, and has won four of the last five. The Diamondbacks were 6-3 at home against the Dodgers last season.
