Blue Jays Ink Royce Clayton

Toronto, ON -- (Sports Network) - The Toronto Blue Jays signed shortstop Royce Clayton to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million on Wednesday.The 37-year-old Clayton split last season between Washington and Cincinnati, hitting .258 with two home runs and 40 runs batted in over 137 games. He started the season with the Nationals and was shipped to the Reds on July 13. "We are very happy to be able to add Royce to our club," said Toronto senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager J.P. Ricciardi. "He is a veteran presence that will strengthen us up the middle and in the clubhouse." In 2,031 career games with San Francisco, St. Louis, Texas, the White Sox, Milwaukee, Colorado, Arizona, Washington and Cincinnati, Clayton has hit .258 with 109 home runs and 711 RBI.
