Happy Father's Day, Josh Brolin: 'Sicario' star talks about preparing for a new baby at 50

Josh Brolin has renewed reason to celebrate Father's Day this year.

The "Sicario: Day of the Soldado" star Brolin, 50, announced May 29 that his wife Kathryn Boyd is pregnant with a baby girl.

He's over-the-moon about the news — "We were trying. I just didn’t think it would happen so fast. We were both like, 'What?!' " Brolin tells USA TODAY.

But he's also a little nervous. It's been a while since new fatherhood for Brolin, who has two grown children, Trevor, 29, and Eden, 24. Working on action movies like Avengers: Infinity Wars and Deadpool 2 show that physicality has limits.

"I'm seeing older fathers that I know throw their kids. But I have a shoulder issue after Deadpool. It's like, am I going to be able to throw my kid or not? I hate those questions. But it is what it is and I'm so excited."

That's just one thought that goes through his head.

"I’m normal nervous because you want to be the best father you can be," he adds.

Brolin and Boyd are "so excited" that they check pregnancy tracker apps "The Bump" and "What to Expect" every morning.

"I got my apps. And it’s like the baby is this big," says Brolin. "She's starting to kick now. We can see all the movement. I am so happy about it, man."

But no name thus far.

"We were kind of forcing names down and nothing was sticking. It was like, let’s let this go for a while. And let’s see what name kind-of sucker punches us," says Brolin.

As he prepares to welcome another Brolin baby, the actor gave props to his 77-year-old father James Brolin on Instagram on Sunday, showing him soaking in an ice tub: "The dude's my hero," he wrote.

Then he pictured his own children, thanking them for being "miracles (who) brought a light into my life I never knew existed before."

To "The Bean" still in his wife's belly, he wrote, "Papa loves you so much already."
