'Deadliest Catch' star Edgar Hansen pleads guilty to sexually assaulting teen, avoids jail

Reality TV fisherman Edgar Hansen pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a teenage girl last September but won't face jail time.

The "Deadliest Catch" star reached a plea deal with Snohomish County prosecutors last week, according to court documents obtained by The Seattle Times. Hansen, 47, received a 364-day suspended jail sentence  and was ordered to pay court fines and fees of $1,653, in addition to undergoing sexual-deviancy evaluation and treatment.

Hansen's victim, who is 16, told her therapist last October that Hansen sexually assaulted her on Sept. 30 at a home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington, according to a probable-cause affidavit filed in Snohomish County District Court last week. At that point, Hansen formally pleaded guilty Friday to fourth-degree assault with sexual motivation and admitted that he intentionally touched and kissed the victim.

Hansen is the deck boss of Seattle-based crabbing boat the Northwestern, which is skippered by his older brother, Sig Hansen. He has appeared throughout the 14-season run of Discovery's "Deadliest Catch," which follows fishing crews on the Bering Sea between Russia's eastern coast and Alaska.

Discovery declined USA TODAY's request for comment.
