Big-Breasted Mermaid Statue Causes Splash
Wednesday, August 10, 2005
WELLINGTON, Fla. -- A mermaid statue called "The Siren" is sounding alarms across the village of Wellington. Some say the statue, which stands in front of the community center, is simply too sexy. People are taking issue with the size of the statue's breasts and want it taken down."That, to me, would be like saying some woman's boobs are too big to be here at the community center," said the statue's creator, Norm Gitzen. "We can't do that -- that's discrimination."Council members agreed with the sculptor and The Siren will stay right where she is.
