Local Student Wins Traffic Safety Poster Contest

CARROLLTON, Ga -- By Wesley Ivester 6th Grade Student at N.P.B.A.Hannah Martin of North Point Baptist Academy in Carrollton has been announced as the winner of a statewide Seatbelt Safety Poster contest. Hannah is the daughter of Marty and Cindy Martin and a sixth grade student in Ms. Karen Buchanan’s homeroom class.Hannah was recognized at a recent student body awards ceremony where she received a $150.00 check for her achievement. Georgia Power Company donated the winners’ prize money. Andrew Turnage, representative of the Georgia Traffic Injury Prevention Institute (GTIPI), presented the awards. Other speakers included: Sheriff Terry Langley, candidate for Tax Commissioner Vickie Bearden, State Representative Mark Butler, Chief of Police Joel Richards, and County Extension agent Michelle Lewis.Several other students from North Point Baptist Academy were recognized as being winners on the county level. Makayle Landrum won first place for the K-5-1st Grade level. Jameson Cochran won first place for the 2nd-3rd Grade level. Graham Grant was the first place winner for the 4-5th grades. And Hannah Martin took 1st place for the 6-8th Grades. All students were presented certificates and congratulated for their achievements.This is the 21st hear GTIPI has held the contest. More than 30,000 students from 242 schools competed in this year’s event. The statewide winner’s artwork will be featured in the 2009 calendar distributed statewide.
