Tip: Dried Spices And Herbs
Posted: 1:07 pm EDT October 19, 2005
If dried herbs and spices are stored in a dry and dark area and in a tightly closed jar rather than a box, they will remain flavorful for about a year. Do not store them above your stove! In general, whole spices keep their flavors the longest, finely ground spices the shortest. Regarding herbs, when the bright green color fades, they probably have lost their effectiveness. Many supermarkets and health food stores sell dried herbs in bulk so you can purchase just what you need and can use in a reasonable length of time.
