Sprouts make a fresh, tasty, and crunchy addition to sandwiches. However, a recent study suggests that raw sprouts may sometimes be contaminated with bacteria. The Food and Drug Administration recommends that the elderly, small children, and those with weak immune systems should avoid eating raw sprouts. Finely shredded lettuce makes a fine substitute.
Paulette Mitchell, a culinary instructor, television personality, and the author of 10 cookbooks, is known internationally for her quick-to-prepare recipes with a gourmet flair.
