The former South Carolina running back suffered a gunshot wound near Broad River Road in Irmo, SC. Reports on the severity of his injury are conflicting.
SportsTalk is reporting that former South Carolina running back Kenny Miles was shot in the arm near Broad River Road. We'll update this page as more details become available.
According to a source, former USC running back Kenny Miles was shot today in Columbia. Injury is not believed to be life threatening.— SportsTalk (@sportstalksc) November 4, 2013
The shooting took place on or near Broad River Road. Miles was shot in the forearm. After he was shot, Miles entered a business and the people working there attempted to help to stop the bleeding. Miles initially asked that no one call the police, but the person or persons helping him insisted they call 9-11 because of the gunshot. Police arrived at the scene and collected evidence from Miles' car.
A report from WIS fills in a few of the missing details but differs from SportsTalk's report as it relates to the severity of Kenny's injury.
Investigators say Miles was taken by EMS to Palmetto Health Richland Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper body. His injuries are considered to be life-threatening, according to the sheriff's department.
The incident happened around 1 p.m. in a business park near the intersection of Kinley Road and Centrum Drive, deputies said. A maroon Ford Taurus is taped off with crime scene tape at 121 Centrum Drive.
The State newspaper issued a similar report but described Miles' injuries as non-life-threatening.
Kenny Miles' affable demeanor and willingness to stick with the team even though he got buried on the depth chart by Marcus Lattimore after his freshman season made him a fan favorite in Columbia. Several fans and journalists who covered him took to Twitter to wish him well.
I didn't know Kenny Miles personally, but he was always one of my favorite people to interview. Very personable and pleasant. Sad news.— Isabelle Khurshudyan (@ikhurshudyan) November 4, 2013
