PLANTATION, Fla. -- Police are hoping the public will be able to help them identify the person who was caught on surveillance camera stuffing a $1,600 puppy down his pants, Miami television station WPLG reported.

The female Maltese puppy was stolen from the Precious Puppies pet store.

Surveillance video shows a man wearing a sleeveless, black undershirt and blue shorts walk into the store and talk to an employee who was putting the puppy back in the holding bin. Moments later, the man picks up the Maltese, walks behind an empty bin and stuffs the 5-month-old puppy down his pants.

He then can be seen walking out of the store, passing two employees, with the puppy still in his pants.

Police said they have received several tips about who the man is, but they declined to elaborate.
