Pink Pig Returning To Macy's

ATLANTA -- The Pink Pig, a holiday tradition at Macy's at Lenox Square, returns on Saturday.The ride opens to the public on Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. in the upper level parking deck at Lenox Square.Rides on the Pink Pig will be $3.00 with repeat rides discounted. Two rides will cost $5.50 and three rides will be $7.50.A portion of the proceeds will go to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.The tradition of the Pink Pig ride goes back more than 50 years to the Rich's store in downtown Atlanta.Riding the Pink Pig, which consisted of small cars adorned with pig faces, was considered a rite of passage for children in Atlanta and many out-of-towners visited the downtown Rich's store for generations.The original ride was a monorail along the ceiling of the store's toy department.It later moved to the roof and encircled the Great Tree, another Rich's holiday tradition that has moved to Lenox Square.The downtown Rich's store closed in 1991.In 2003, Priscilla, the Pink Pig was re-introduced to a new generations of Atlantans by Macy's. The updated Pink Pig features larger train cars that even adults can ride comfortably.
