The Shouters are an African-American family of ten performers from the Bolden community on the southeastern coast of Georgia.  Known for their ring shout -- the oldest African-derived tradition surviving on the North American continent -- this unique ensemble presents a fusion of call-and-response singing, polyrhythmic percussion (handclapping, foot patting with a stick beating a wooden board), and expressive dance-like shuffling circular movements, which have had a profound influence on African-American music and religious practices.  The singing-dancing age-old tradition represents African retentions that honor ancestral spirits and embrace a connection between the living and the dead. PROGRAM SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.  PLEASE CHECK OUR WEBSITE FOR UPDATES www.arts.gsu.edu/cencia.html McIntosh County Shouters at GSU 0.00
