Things 2 Do

Enjoy carnival, fair food this year without the fair

Funnel cakes, cotton candy, deep-fried Oreo cookies; these are just some of the tasty treats people would normally find at local fairs and carnivals this time of the year.

But with COVID-19, nearly all the local fairs and carnivals have had to cancel. The cancellations not only impact operators, workers and the communities the fairs support, but also some beneficiaries of the events.

But the North Georgia State Fair is hoping past guests might still want a funnel cake and lemonade this time of the year.

The fair will open its Taste of the Fair Sept. 25-27 and Oct. 2-4 at Jim R. Miller Park in Marietta. Admission and parking are free. Attendees will drive through the one-way fair route and have the chance to purchase food items from some of the fair’s annual vendors. Walk-up service will be available, too. All of the typical fair food will be available, including cheesecake on a stick, corn dogs, frozen bananas, nachos, turkey legs and more.

As part of the event, the fair will be collecting canned goods for MUST Ministries. Each person who donates seven nonperishable canned goods will receive a free ticket to the 2021 fair.

Those who choose to order and eat in their cars are not required to wear a mask. Individuals who choose walk-up service are strongly encouraged to wear masks.
