Channel 2, WSB-TV, The Family 2 Family Project and The Children’s Restoration Network (CRN) announce the launch of a major school supply drive during the month of July. Its mission is to provide homeless children with book bags and school supplies to help them cope with returning to or entering a new school.
“When homeless children return to school on that first day without a book bag or school supplies, it serves as a reminder of how they are different and how they don’t fit in,” said Tim McVay, Vice President and General Manager for Channel 2 WSB-TV. “Our goal is to collect schools supplies for 4,000 students so they spend their time focusing on the classwork.”
Saturday, July 13, 7am to 11pm, “Stuff the Bus” at Channel 2. WSB-TV will be collecting NEW book bags and school supplies at their station located at 1601 West Peachtree Street, Atlanta, Georgia 30309. Click here for directions. A large school bus will be there and the public will be encouraged to Stuff the Bus with school supplies.
Suggested school supplies:
- NEW Book Bags
- Wide and College ruled Notebook Paper
- Spiral Notebooks
- 3-Ring Binders
- File Folders
- Calculators (regular and scientific)
- Glue and any other supplies necessary for school
- USB or JUMP Drives
- Color pencils
- Small hand sanitizer
- Travel facial tissue
Viewers who bring school supplies will be entered into a drawing for prizes provided by the Family 2 Family sponsors. As of this date, the prizes include:
- Four (4) Southwest Airline tickets
- American Signature Furniture gift card
- Kroger gift cards
In addition, American Signature Furniture will be giving 10% off discount coupons to every viewer who contributes at Channel 2 on Saturday.
July 5th - 12: Collecting NEW book bags and school supplies at any American Signature Furniture Store in metro-Atlanta or any Northside Hospital location.
July 14-August 3 Collecting NEW book bags and school supplies at any Atlanta Division Kroger store. Kroger will also be offering special pre-packaged school supply boxes at a deep discount for the duration of the campaign.
Atlanta Journal Constitution Pulitzer Prize winning Cartoonist Mike Luckovich donated his drawing for the campaign.
The Family 2 Family Project is proudly supported by American Signature Furniture, The Kroger Company, Northside Hospital, SCANA Energy and Southwest Airlines.
Samson Trailways, an Atlanta based family company, has donated one of its yellow school buses and delivery services for “Stuff the Bus.”
