LOS ANGELES -- It looks like the old Dead are gettin' on, just not in Atlanta.Surviving members of the Grateful Dead say they'll regroup for a 19-city tour -- their first since 2004 -- beginning April 12 in Greensboro, N.C.Atlanta is not included in the tour dates. The closest concert will be the opener in North Carolina.Dead Heads willing to travel could also make a road trip to Charlottesville, Va. or Washington. The group, which now just calls itself the Dead, announced its plans last week. Original band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann have toured sporadically since the 1995 death of guitarist Jerry Garcia but struggled to get along personally and artistically. They told Rolling Stone magazine in November that they've worked out their differences, aided by a successful October benefit concert in Pennsylvania for then-presidential nominee Barack Obama. For the tour, Warren Haynes will join the Dead on lead guitar, and Jeff Chimenti will play keyboards. Both were with the group on its 2004 "Wave That Flag" tour. Most of the concert stops will be on the East Coast, but it finishes with two shows in California -- a May 9 gig at the Forum in Inglewood, then the following night in Mountain View. Tickets go on sale Jan. 23.Here are all the Dead dates:April 12, Greensboro, N.C., Greensboro ColiseumApril 14, Washington, DC, Verizon CenterApril 15, Charlottesville, Va., John Paul Jones ArenaApril 17, Albany, N.Y., Times Union CenterApril 18, Worcester, Mass., DCU CenterApril 19, Worcester, Mass., DCU CenterApril 21, Buffalo, N.Y., HSBC ArenaApril 22, Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Wachovia Arena @ Casey PlazaApril 24, Uniondale, N.Y., Nassau ColiseumApril 25, New York, N.Y., Madison Square GardenApril 26, Hartford, Ct., XL CenterApril 28, E.
