Simpson Freed From Las Vegas Jail

Bail Doubled For Former NFL Star

O.J. Simpson has been released from jail in Las Vegas.

Simpson walked out by himself late Wednesday, got into a white Mercedes and was quickly driven away without any comment to waiting reporters.

The ex-football star's bail in a robbery case was revoked last week after he tried to contact a co-defendant in violation of court orders. Simpson attorney Gabriel Grasso denied that the former football star violated his bail agreement.

"I don't know, Mr. Simpson, what the heck you were thinking -- or maybe that's the problem -- you weren't," Clark County District Court Judge Jackie Glass said as she lectured Simpson. "I don't know if it's just arrogance. I don't know if it's ignorance. But you've been locked up at the Clark County Detention Center since Friday because of arrogance or ignorance -- or both."

The judge upped the bail about from $125,000 to $250,000, and required that 15 percent be paid before Simpson could be released from jail.

Simpson is accused of robbing memorabilia dealers who were peddling collectibles associated with him. He said some of the items belonged to him.

The prosecutor alleged that Simpson tried to get his bail bondsman to take a message to one of his co-defendants in violation of a court order.

"I just want, want C.J. to know that ... I'm tired of this (expletive)," Simpson is quoted as saying in a transcript that was included in court documents filed Friday. "Fed up with (expletive) changing what they told me. All right?"

Simpson had been instructed by Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure in September not to have any contact with anyone involved in the case -- not even by "carrier pigeon."
