One of the men who accompanied O.J. Simpson to a hotel-room confrontation with two sports memorabilia dealers testified Tuesday that the former football star wanted them to bring "heat" to show they meant business. Simpson's golfing buddy, Walter Alexander, also said Simpson instructed "Spencer" McClinton to draw his weapon before the group entered the room.It was part of the testimony that resumed Tuesday in a preliminary hearing to determine if Simpson and two men will stand trial on robbery and kidnapping charges.Alexander -- who accepted a plea deal to testify against Simpson -- said that the last-minute instruction "changed the whole plan.""At first the plan was we were to just show the guns," Alexander said. "But right before we went into the room he told Spencer to put the gun in his hand."Alexander said he kept the weapon he was carrying tucked into the waistband of his suit, but that as soon as he saw McClinton waving his weapon around and shouting orders at the memorabilia dealers he realized he was taking part in an armed robbery. He said Simpson told him he was worried the dealers might be armed and he wanted to bring the weapons so his group could protect themselves as well as intimidate them into handing over the memorabilia.Simpson, "C.J." Stewart and Charles Ehrlich are accused of confronting the dealers at gunpoint in a hotel room to seize items Simpson said belonged to him.The hearing was supposed to end Friday, but was continued until Tuesday.Only four of eight expected witnesses have testified, including the dealer and a man who entered a plea deal and agreed to testify against Simpson. Two other men involved in the incident have also entered plea deals.Simpson and his two co-defendants face 12 criminal charges.A kidnapping conviction could mean life in prison.Last week, one of dealers Simpson is accused of robbing, Bruce Fromong, testified that Simpson burst into a hotel room with a handful of other men."O.J. was screaming, 'This is all my s---. This all belongs to me. You stole this from me. Let's pack up. Let's get out of here,"' Fromong said.Fromong testified that that one of the men pointed a gun in his face during the alleged confrontation, which lasted five to six minutes. The dealer claimed the men stuffed hundreds of items into pillowcases and the Palace Station hotel-casino, where the incident allegedly took place.Another key witness for the prosecution, however, contradicted Fromong's testimony.Thomas Riccio said that he used a key to admit Simpson and a group of men to the hotel room to claim Simpson's property, denying there was a "military style invasion.""I had a key and I let them in. Nobody was busting the door down," Riccio said.
