The audiotapes in the O.J. Simpson robbery case that first surfaced on celebrity gossip site TMZ.com are now in the hands of the Las Vegas police.

According to his attorney, auctioneer Tom Riccio -- a key witness in the case -- turned over hours of recordings made at his Los Angeles home to Las Vegas police Friday.

Riccio planted a recording device in the Las Vegas hotel room where Simpson and a group of men allegedly robbed memorabilia dealers at gunpoint earlier this month.

Simpson has been accused of barging into a hotel room at the Palace Station casino in Las Vegas, and stealing sports memorabilia from two collectors. The former NFL star faces 11 charges -- 10 of them felonies -- including counts of robbery and kidnapping.

Simpson said the believes the items were stolen from him and he was simply recovering them.

Riccio said that he arranged the hotel meeting between dealers and a private collector. But he didn't mention the collector was going to be Simpson.

He then leaked audio of the confrontation to TMZ.com.

Some have accused Riccio of setting up Simpson. But Riccio's lawyer denies it and said that his client didn't know Simpson would show up with five other men.

He said that Riccio taped the encounter because he didn't trust one of the dealers.

Meanwhile, one of O.J.'s alleged accomplices is out of jail. Michael McClinton, of Las Vegas, has been released from the Clark County Detention Center and placed under house arrest.

Simpson returned to Florida Thursday after he was released from the Las Vegas jail a day earlier, on $125,000 bond.
