Some Counties Approve Sprinkler Use

Wednesday, June 25, 2008 – updated: 4:04 pm EDT June 25, 2008

Clarke, Jackson and Oconee county residents can begin using their sprinklers again beginning Monday, June 30, 2008.

Automatic irrigation will be allowed one day per week in those counties. Watering by hand will also still be allowed for brief periods of time three days per week.

The hand-watering schedule will continue unchanged. Residents with odd-numbered addresses can hand-water for 25 minutes per day between midnight and 10 a.m. on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Residents with even-numbered addresses can hand-water on Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays.

In addition to the hand-watering, residents with addresses ending in 0 or 1 can use sprinklers between midnight and 10 a.m. on Mondays; those with addresses ending in 2 or 3 can sprinkle on Tuesdays; those with addresses ending in 4 or 5 can sprinkle on Wednesdays; those with addresses ending in 6 or 7 can sprinkle on Thursdays and those with addresses ending in 8 or 9 can sprinkle on Fridays.

Barrow County will opt out of the new schedule and continue to allow hand-watering with a spray-nozzle three days per week, but not sprinklers.

The new schedule is at least the fourth one in the past year
