Road Rage Suspect Arrested After WSB-TV Report

Friday, March 21, 2008 – updated: 6:22 pm EDT March 21, 2008

Bragging about winning a fistfight may have landed a Butts County teen in jail.

Deputies arrested Michael McCool, 19, Thursday and charged him with beating Audie Johnson and leaving him on the side of I-75 in Butts County on March 5.

Brain injuries left Johnson in a coma for 13 days.

"This was not just a fistfight, this was a beating," said Butts County Sheriff Gene Pope.

After a Crime Stoppers report about the attack appeared on WSB-TV Channel 2 and wsbtv.com several tipsters called with information.

They claimed McCool had been bragging about beating up a man on the Interstate.

Sheriff Pope called the incident road rage and told WSB-TV reporter Mark Winne it started on the Interstate.

"Cutting one another off, they got off on the ramp, the fight ensued and left one bloody lying right there on the pavement," said Pope.

McCool was charged with aggravated battery. A Butts County judge denied bond for McCool because of a pending probabtion violation in Snellville.
