The Atlanta Children's Shelter provides social services, free daycare and additional resources for families in need. The organization's "Achievers' Celebration – We Believe, They Achieve!" is Saturday, Oct. 22 at The "W" Atlanta in Midtown. The event starts at 5:30 p.m.

Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation helps Browns Mill Elementary students make healthier choices

Every year the nonprofit, Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation partners with a local school to help plant the seeds of a garden program. The nonprofit's mission is "to educate, activate, motivate and empower youth in the areas of academic achievement, health, fitness, nutrition and total wellness."

Komen Atlanta partners with Kroger and Northside Hospital to offer “ScreenAtlanta Mobile Mammography”

Kroger and Northside Hospital partner with Komen Greater Atlanta to offer the "ScreenAtlanta Mobile Mammography" program. All month long, a mobile mammogram clinic will be traveling to various Kroger store locations. The clinic's next stop will be at the Chamblee Dunwoody Kroger Location on Monday, Oct. 10.

League of Women Voters President, Elizabeth Poythress is One on One with Jocelyn Dorsey

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan political organization encouraging informed and active participation in government. It influences public policy through education and advocacy. Their Power of the Vote Luncheon is from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at 103 West on Thursday, Oct. 13.

SCAD FASH presents two new exhibits on fashion

SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film focuses on the future of fashion design and has two new exhibits. The 'Redefined Irreverence' exhibit features more than 99 ensembles and is available until Oct. 23. 'Embellished: Adornment Through the Ages' is the first SCAD FASH exhibition that focuses exclusively on the evolution of fashion and is open until Jan. 29, 2017.

Atlanta Families’ Awards for Excellence in Education honors Druid Hills Middle teacher, Toni Bailey

The Atlanta Families Award for Excellence in Education recognizes teachers for their commitment to the classroom. Award recipients are given a $7,500 for a proposal they submitted that improves education. The nonprofit is now accepting applications for the 2017 season.
