ATLANTA – DeChantress Lee and her youngest child, LeRon, are reuniting with the first responders who saved the toddler’s life when his house caught fire.

It has been more than four months since the mother of nine has seen the firefighters who saved her 1-year-old son’s life. Sgt. Cortez Stafford and Battalion Chief Alfredo Sealy went to visit the family in their new home. Stafford said he appreciates a rare moment like this.

“When you can come back and reconnect with some of the folks we’ve had an opportunity to save and interact with, it makes all of us feel good,” Stafford said. “It doesn’t happen that often but I’m glad I was able to be here today.”

When Lee found out her that youngest child was still in the house that had caught fire, she was concerned about his condition. She feeds her son through a feeding tube and was concerned about the impact that smoke would have on her child.

“His airway was never developed, so everything that was going in was going into his lungs,” Lee said.

Lee called LeRon “her miracle” and is grateful for the first responders who saved her son’s life.

“It’s just amazing to me that they, you know, really even still think about my son,” Lee said.
